Review: Stock Touch (Universal App)

07 Mar

Stock Touch (Visible Market Inc., $4.99) Universal App

One of the nicest looking apps I have seen in a long time, this relatively new app which functions virtually identically between the iPhone and the iPad is sure to please the eye even if the actual data you are seeing does not. Stock Touch, released in June of 2011, is designed with a very simple format and layout in mind presenting the top 900 performing stocks spread out across 9 different sectors (100 per sector). While the app is targeted to the retail investor, Steve deBrun the CEO of Visible Market Inc. said that “anyone who is interested in monitoring the stock market and understanding the dynamics of how price and volume shifts across different sectors” would be a prospective user of this app. This is a universal app and so one purchase allows you to use it across all of your iDevices.

Tomorrow will roar in like a lion as Apple makes their big announcement

06 Mar

The day is almost upon us, and here we are seeing the last ditch efforts in the blogosphere to predict the outcome of tomorrow’s event. The big day that will truly cause march to roar in like a lion. Speculation has tomorrow bringing the announcement of a new iPad rumored to be named the ‘iPad HD’, but what else will Apple be introducing? By the looks of it, tomorrow will bring us a lot from updates to iOS 5, to a new Apple TV.

The demise of a great man

19 Oct

There have been many great people, men and women alike throughout history who have contributed to the well being of mankind whether through invention or discovery, in someway bringing to the people that which they didn’t have and didn’t even know they needed. These people were able to think outside the proverbial box and bring to us things that we couldn’t even think of in our dreams. Even in our sci-fi movies in modern times, when we portray the future it is done with a simplistic view not able to accurately predict said future because of our inability to do what these great men and women before us have done. The late Steve Jobs was one of these men, changing the way all of us use music and video and interact with each other on a mobile level. Henry Ford was another at a time when motor vehicles were not for the masses, he made them available to all. That which people didn’t feel they needed, soon they could not live without.

iPhone 4 Home Button not working? Try this little trick!

17 Oct

I generally don’t do this type of a post, but seeing as it is a problem I’ve been having, I felt it appropriate to share with all of you the solution, to prevent you from dealing with it as I have.

For the past several months, my home button (on my iPhone 4) hasn’t been working properly. It started off rather innocuous, just behaving a bit odd, randomly, and not really reproducible. But as time went on it got to the point that it only worked (actions requiring pressing the home button) one out of every 10 or so attempts.  This made certain tasks down right difficult if not impossible, such as screenshots, working the multi-task bar and other things requiring the home button use. For a while, having the beta on my device, I wasn’t sure if this was just a bug in the software or if it was a real hardware problem. After the public release of iOS 5, I settled on it being a hardware problem that was quite the annoyance.  For those of you experiencing this problem, please read on there is hope!

A lot of goodies coming out today!

12 Oct

With the release of iOS 5, there are a lot of goodies that Apple is planning (or already has) to release today. I will keep this list updated as more becomes available:

Be sure to upgrade to iOS 5.0 prior to installing these as most (if not all) require iOS 5.

Review: iOS5 for iDevices

12 Oct

iOS5

This update, a free update for most iPhones, iPods and iPads, (the exception is iPhones older than 3GS which do not support this update) is slated to be released later today and is by far the most incredible, feature rich update to the iOS devices thus far. Of course I say this every year with every new major update but the truth of the matter is they just keep getting better and better. The impending release of the iPhone 4S this coming Friday is relatively small news in my opinion compared to this release as virtually every new feature it sports is because of iOS5. Per usual  has worked long and hard to provide us with great new features and show us clearly why they are the best of the best when it comes to smart phones. This OS was in beta a lot longer than they normally do for iOS, perhaps because of all the great new features that really needed to be tested. Per usual I have been with it since the beginning. For those of you wondering what happened to all the app reviews this summer, that is a major contributor. Given that I had the beta I felt it unfair for the most part to give negative app reviews for issues which were likely the fault (or at least possibly the fault) of the beta os. Now that it is finally here, go on over to iTunes and install iOS5, you won’t regret it!

Is It Enough For You? The All-New iPhone 4S

05 Oct

20111005 -071657.jpg
The long awaited 2011 edition of the iPhone, aka the iPhone 4S has finally been announced and will be released in 9 days and counting (10 days from the announcement). The October 14 release date is quite a bit after their usual early summer release date which has lead to a lot of speculation about what would be coming, what would be so great as to delay it for so long. Part of me thought that  would really hit it out of the ballpark with this phone, another part also thought that  was doing whatever it takes to get it right this time around. Whatever the reason, the new iPhone is here and later than most people expected. So the next question is: did they do enough in this iPhone to get you to put down the $200+ to upgrade?

The All New iPhone 4S

04 Oct

As I am sure most of you (if not all) are aware already, Apple announced today the impending release of the iPhone 4S as well as iOS 5. While the announcement wasn’t exactly what I would call spectacular (there was some cool stuff, but nothing that blew me away), I still think there is a lot of great things coming to the new iPhone 4S. So here is the roundup of details in case you missed it:

Today is the Big Day

04 Oct

Today is the big day, at 10:00 am PDT  will announce the future of the iPhone, iPods and iOS. There are many questions looming about what is coming today, not the least of which that has been on everyone’s mind is WHEN. Never fear, in just 6 short hours we will all be kicking back, watching some live blog of the event while the media elite enjoy the presentation in person. There are many things on my mind about what might be coming today. I have speculated about wireless charging or even a voice to text system and many many more things. Any one of which could be what we see. With the announcement finally here,  is sure to not disappoint, and you won’t have to wait much longer. So stay tuned, I’ll be posting updates here as they come. Today will be an exciting day!

Apple Updates Second Gen Apple TVs

01 Aug

If you own a second generation TV, head over to the updates section and get the latest update for your device. Apple today released an update to second generation TVs that is sure to drive more consumers toward their purchase option for TV shows rather than renting. Additionally it will bring more consumers to the device as a whole. The new iCloud like feature allows you to view all the TV shows I have previously purchased and stream them right to my TV.
