iOS Tips: How to cheat at iOS games

17 Dec

I really don’t see any moral issue when it comes to cheating on iOS games. Now beware, this could spoil your fun at playing the game. But in a lot of cases, the best parts of the game only come once you advance so far. So this tip can assist you in getting to the higher levels of the game if done correctly. If you mess up, no worries, worst case scenario you can delete the game and reinstall. This technique will also allow you to backup your game status (in case of deletion) and even share it across devices as long as the multiple devices all use the same binary. This trick does *NOT* work with every iOS app/game. But it never hurts to try and see if it does work. Some save data using binary files or even core data which will make it harder for you to get to. But the games that store the data in flat files will work with this method.

Review: iOS5 for iDevices

12 Oct

iOS5

This update, a free update for most iPhones, iPods and iPads, (the exception is iPhones older than 3GS which do not support this update) is slated to be released later today and is by far the most incredible, feature rich update to the iOS devices thus far. Of course I say this every year with every new major update but the truth of the matter is they just keep getting better and better. The impending release of the iPhone 4S this coming Friday is relatively small news in my opinion compared to this release as virtually every new feature it sports is because of iOS5. Per usual  has worked long and hard to provide us with great new features and show us clearly why they are the best of the best when it comes to smart phones. This OS was in beta a lot longer than they normally do for iOS, perhaps because of all the great new features that really needed to be tested. Per usual I have been with it since the beginning. For those of you wondering what happened to all the app reviews this summer, that is a major contributor. Given that I had the beta I felt it unfair for the most part to give negative app reviews for issues which were likely the fault (or at least possibly the fault) of the beta os. Now that it is finally here, go on over to iTunes and install iOS5, you won’t regret it!

Today is the Big Day

04 Oct

Today is the big day, at 10:00 am PDT  will announce the future of the iPhone, iPods and iOS. There are many questions looming about what is coming today, not the least of which that has been on everyone’s mind is WHEN. Never fear, in just 6 short hours we will all be kicking back, watching some live blog of the event while the media elite enjoy the presentation in person. There are many things on my mind about what might be coming today. I have speculated about wireless charging or even a voice to text system and many many more things. Any one of which could be what we see. With the announcement finally here,  is sure to not disappoint, and you won’t have to wait much longer. So stay tuned, I’ll be posting updates here as they come. Today will be an exciting day!

OS X 10.7 Lion – A Week Later

01 Aug

It’s been a little over a week since I installed OS X 10.7 (Lion) on the main partition of my machine and started using it as my primary OS. I have had access to the beta since it was released so none of it was a real surprise to me, but none the less I had not yet used it as my primary OS. Any time I install something new I generally give it a bit of time before determining how I feel about it, to make sure I am giving it a fair shot. I think it is too easy to jump to conclusions right away so I avoid doing that when it comes to publicly expressing my opinion about it, good or bad. At any rate here it is:

I am an Apple Geek

21 Mar

I am an  geek, that much is obvious, I obsess over my apple gadgets and of course generally I must have all the latest and greatest. At home it is just my wife and myself yet we have more apple computers and toys than a normal household of 4 would. My co-workers have taken notice to this obsession and even have placed bets on my ability to go without apple gadgetry. I personally like my devices too much to indulge them, but recently a co-worker made a video based on his experience with me that is oddly quite accurate and so I wanted to share it with all of you. This video is inspired by my recent 25 hour wait in line (and camp out) for the iPad 2 *WARNING: BRIEF OBSCENE LANGUAGE AND INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT*:

The Blurry Line Between Helping a Friend and Tech Support

07 Mar

Part of the problem with having a good understanding of technology is the blurry line that appears between helping friends and become their own personal Tech Support. There was a comic in The Oatmeal recently that really captures well the dangerous slippery slope one can go down when they allow friends and co-workers to use them as tech support. It sure makes me think about the people around me who use me for tech support. Now don’t get me wrong, I love ,  Technology, my iDevices and everything iOS. I certainly don’t mind helping people find the right application for their needs and the right way to do things.  I also don’t mind helping a friend out at all, part of the reason I started this blog was because I have a lot of people who look to me for information on their iDevices. At work, a lot of people come to me saying, “Paul, I figured if anyone knew it would be you. Do you know…”. I really don’t mind being people’s go to guy, being the one that people think of first as having all the answers.

Apple Announces the iPad 2

02 Mar

Ok, we knew this was coming, we just didn’t have all the details. Well today Apple officially announced the release of the iPad 2. According to Steve Jobs, “2011. This will be the year of the iPad 2″, this new iPad is expected to by far outshine its competition. With a myriad of tablets expected to be released this year, the iPad really has to go far to stay ahead. One thing I have personally learned about Apple over the years is that no matter what people speculate going into an Apple event, they never cease to WOW me with the details of their new device. No matter how hard I try to not have to have that new device, I always end up being there to get it! The iPad 2 is no exception, with the sleek new design and new features it is sure to stay ahead of any competing device. And of course the hardest thing for any competitor is to beat that price!

Check Back Tomorrow 7am PST for Big Announcement

15 Nov

Apple is wetting the appetite of those who follow them closely.  But what could it be?  More than likely this is related to the release of iOS 4.2 (or so I suspect).   Although their announcement does specifically state that it is iTunes related, that could still be related to iOS 4.2.  But perhaps they have something else up their sleeves??  There is a lot of speculation relative to a new audio format other than MP3, or even cloud based storage of an itunes library.  Especially with the upcoming completion of their new data center, there is sure to be something great coming our way!  I’d venture a possible guess would be some sort of joining together of MobileMe and iTunes allowing for cloud based syncing of the iPod (iPhone/iPad included) over the air.  And possibly even free MobileMe for all.  What do you think this big announcement is?
